I have a replacement processor arriving later today, so I plan to spend some time this weekend working through this issue. They have been turned on their sides, which can pose problems if you have a small case, as getting to them may be an issue, but it depends on the case. We receive spam notifications and will take immediate action! I am unable to determine at this stage whether or not the non-recognition of the optical is a hardware fault or is an OS issue and I am currently trying to reinstall the OS Ubuntu using a usb stick.
Neither are ‘flagged’ as SATA. After reviewing the GA-MA69GM-S2H manual, I identified my rookie mistake, installed my original CPU and heatsink fan into my original system board, added memory, mounted the satw in the case, stretched out the coiled-up power switch connector and connected it to the correct jumper pair in the front panel header, connected power and fans, then crossed my fingers. It is cooled by a pretty small aluminum heatsink.
Firstly, are the motherboard standoffs in the case in the right place, may have shorted out something on the back of the motherboard.
I have installed Linux Ubuntu. When I had the first system board in the case, it did appear to be resting correctly on the standoffs, and I was able to screw in all five retaining screws into the standoff holes without any strain or flexing.
If anyone has specific experience with getting the GA-MA69GM-S2H system board to successfully fire up, I would greatly appreciate it if you would chime in here and let me know if I am missing a critical step.
The hard drive is plugges into sata port 0 and the optical into sata port 1 and the 2 devices then appear in the boot setup page in the first 2 channels. I also reseated all of the memory.

On the case that I was using, the cable for the front panel power switch appeared to be too short to reach all the way over to the front panel header, so I incorrectly concluded that the C1 chassis intrusion header was actually the power switch connector. We also have several chips located here on this section of the board….
